Blackfoot Offroad Ride
May 20 @ 12:45 - 16:00
Cycling the Blackfoot Recreation Area
May 20 @ 1pm to 4 or 5 pm
Date: Saturday, May 20
Time: 12:45 pm for a 1:00 pm START
Location: Start from the Waskehegan Staging Area (https://goo.gl/maps/V1e8xAbGy8s)
Cost: Just your membership.
Distance: about 25 km, give or take
Rating: If you’re used to mountain biking then it’s a beginner ride, if you’re not then it’s intermediate. It’s pretty much all hills. More advanced riders are welcome to split off but no one will be left behind … too far. We’ll always meet up again at junctions.
RSVP: None required, but an RSVP would be appreciated.
Coordinators: Greg Pommen, email@example.com (780-951-0916)
What to bring:
-A bike that can go off road. If the ground is dry then anything from hybrids & cyclocross to full suspension mountain bikes can ride the trails. If it’s muddy then be prepared to push hybrids & cyclocross more than ride them.
-Bring water and snacks.
-Bring footwear with traction in case you have to push through any muck or uphill.
-There is a possibility of being coated in a certain amount of mud so be prepared to protect your vehicle on the way back.
-There are outhouses on the trails, if we can find them, but be prepared to use a lava-tree.
-Absolute must bring: A sense of humour.
Description: Basically we’ll take off road capable bikes and explore the trails of the Blackfoot Recreation Area (http://www.albertaparks.ca/cooking-lake-blackfoot/). I say explore because due to an almost comical coincidence of medical matters none of your organizers or interested participants have been able to scout out the trails in advance. Bring your sense of humour and be prepared for the possibility of cycling more than 25 km by accident.
Still interested? You may just be crazy enough to be our kind of people! Blackfoot is a beautiful mix of scenery, animals, and plants that has attracted skiers, hikers, horseback riders, and even cyclists for years to its seemingly endless lattice of trails. So you might want to bring a camera along too.
** If the weather is extremely unpleasant this ride will likely be cancelled **
